Individual Number and Print Run
An inscription in the format of individual number versus total relates that piece to a declared print run. A low number does not automatically mean it is an earlier manufactured example or of higher quality.
Some collections have parallel versions with different materials and quantities. Always compare the full designation.
Numbering Is Not Provenance
The engraving helps to identify, but on its own it does not document ownership, authenticity or condition. Certificates and additional history complement the reading.
Record the number in your private catalog and confirm that the pen, certificate and packaging are consistent with each other.
