Very absorbent papers spread ink through the fibers, widening the stroke and potentially causing bleeding. More controlled surfaces preserve the outline and highlight the characteristics of the ink.
Grammage helps, but doesn't guarantee performance. Well-made fine papers can handle ink better than thicker, porous options.
Test by use
Consider drying time for quick notes and resistance on the back side for writing on both sides. A broad nib demands more from the paper than a fine one.
