Material and Construction

Gold pens use alloys that balance strength, elasticity, and manufacturability. Markings such as 14K, 18K, 585, or 750 indicate purity, but do not fully describe the writing experience.

Geometry, thickness, feed, and adjustment influence writing performance as much as the alloy. A rigid pen can be excellent for everyday writing.

Engravings and Eras

Designs, inscriptions, and finishes have varied across models and periods. These clues aid in identification, but should be cross-referenced with other characteristics.

Aggressive polishing and repairs can alter details. Photograph the pen before any intervention and consult a specialist for adjustments.
