Georges Pompidou (1911-1974) became president of the French Republic in 1969. In five years he pushed through the modernisation of France by pursuing visionary social and economic reforms. He had a dream: to create a public place in the heart of Paris, a hub to French modern art, literature, theatre and different forms of cultural expression: the famous Centre of Pompidou.
