Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) is a German well-known Romatic painter. He is known for his allegorical landscapes showing contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees and Gothic ruins.

The design of the cap is influenced by the impression of the distance and the perspectives used in many of his paintings. The cap is made of coloured stripe agate - a genuine stone in brownish colour which makes each pen distinctive due to the natural pattern.
