History

Cardinal Richelieu, Louis XIII's chief minister, is described as a prelate, displaying the order of the Saint-Esprit. Richelieu was a very extroverted person and liked to take center. This is why his portrait was designed as a relief in order to emphasize his person and character. Richelieu was also popular for his patronage of the arts: most notably, he founded the Académie française, the learned society responsible for matters pertaining to the French language.

The cap is made of onyx and is decorated with a solid gold intarsia portrait of Cardinal Richelieu. The cap is set with 49 diamonds (~0,22 ct.).
Top of the Cap
The dome of the Académie Française forms the cap top of the edition. The emblem is made of mother-of-pearl.

The clip is made of Au750 solid gold.
Design
The overall design is inspired by the Académie Française and its founder, Cardinal Richelieu.The design is enriched by the filigree pattern of olive groves, referring to the embroidered border of the uniform of the Académie Française. The olive leafs on the barrel are set with 57 black diamonds (olives) (~0,16 ct.) and 360 white diamonds (leafs) (~1,62 ct.). The creation is made of Au750 solid gold.

The cone is made of Au750 solid gold.
Feather
The Au750 gold nib is decorated with the seal of Cardinal Richelieu.
Limitation
The number 8 is considered a lucky number. It also reflects the regular pattern written in the nib atelier with every nib before it is released.
