History

Avicenna ( 980–1037) was a Persian polymath who is regarded as a significant thinker and writer of the Islamic Golden Age. His most famous works are The Book of Healing (completed around 1020, and published it in 1027) – a philosophical and scientific encyclopedia, and The Canon of Medicine (published in 1025) – a medical encyclopedia, which set the standards for medicine in Medieval Europe and the Islamic world, and was used as a standard medical textbook through the 18th century in Europe.

Cap
The Au750 solid gold cap with luminous orange lacquer inlays is set with turquoise stones.
Top of the Cap
The emblem is made of mother-of-pearl.
Clip
The clip set with a green facetted tourmaline.
Design
The red color on the cap and barrel is inspired by a portrait of Avicenna and the pattern takes the inspiration of the fine ornaments of early medieval manuscripts of The Canon of Medicine. The shape of the barrel, made of black mother-of-pearl from Tahiti shel, is inspired by the Avicenna mausoleum. The barrel of black mother-of-pearl is a homage to his book The Canon of Medicine, which introduced the medical effect of black mother-of-pearl.
Cone
The cone is enriched with a Persian turquoise cabochon and shaped like the striking tower of the Avicenna Mausoleum.
Feather
The Au750 gold nib is enriched with a fine engraving inspired by caduceus, which is a symbol of medicine, paying tribute to the legacy of Avicenna in medicine.
Limitation
The 65 refers to the area code of Bukhara (Avicenna’s birthplace) and the Book 5 from The Canon of Medicine, which lists 650 compound drugs, which are early reference for compound drugs of the world.
